Foxee’s Artist Statement

My Afro-Surrealist and art nouveau-inspired work aims to counteract strong Black female caricatures and instead depict the strength found in our humanity, fragility, and vulnerability.

Inspired by my journey of self-discovery, I release repressed emotions through poetry and illustrate transfigurations of whole figures and disembodied parts into fantastical fusions of flesh, nature, and machine. These visuals represent my desire to reassemble, accept, and become the truest form of me. Yet, I hope my work transcends myself, race, culture, sexuality, and gender and resonates with anyone who also craves self-knowledge.
